Twitter has taken action in excluding locked accounts from twitter publicly displayed follower counts for not going with the company’s standard, as the company suggested. Most accounts locked for reasons not up to the company’s standards will remain frozen until the account owner goes back to it and requests for a password reset before it can be seen as valid after a successful reset. But until such procedure is taken those locked accounts are deemed frozen and won’t be counted as followers of any account they had followed.

Twitter also said people will lose up to four followers or less with respect to its new change. But large accounts could lose hundreds of thousands of account followers. President Donald Trump’s account had lost up to 100,000 account followers immediately after this change was made by Twitter, as reported and former President Barack Obama lost up to 400,000 as reported too.
said Vijaya Gadde, who oversees Twitter’s safety team, in a tweet said, “You should be confident that the follower numbers presented across Twitter are meaningful and accurate,”. He further said, “We’re making this changes to follower counts as part of our work to make Twitter a more trusted service for public conversation.

The reason why Twitter could lock an account is when it detects suspicious changes in behavior and now such accounts will be removed from follower counts across profiles around the world.

This new change will bring a drop down in the number of followers displayed on many profiles globally.

Other reasons Twitter would lock an account

When an account include tweeting a large volume of replies or mentions, tweeting “misleading” links, and
If these accounts are being blocked by a large number of accounts after the account mentions them.
Account’s email and password are posted online as part of a leak.

Nothing has been said yet about if engagement numbers from these blocked accounts would still be showing such as their likes and retweets from the publicly posted count as Twitter has not answered any question concerning that.

Twitter further said the changes will be implemented in “the next few days,”. But follower counts will continue to make changes as Twitter keep working to ensure bad accounts are out of the service
